Thoughts on the First Episode of A&E’s “Obsessed”
Tuesday May 26, 2009
Last evening was the premier of A&E’s new series “Obsessed”; if you haven’t already heard of the show, it is chronicles the struggles of people with OCD (and other anxiety disorders) as well as follows them through treatment with cognitive-behavior therapy. Overall, I thought the show was quite engaging and did a really nice job highlighting the challenges faced by people affected by OCD. In particular, the show really captured how difficult – but effective - exposure exercises can be. I have high hopes that this show will go a long-way towards reducing the stigma associated with OCD and other forms of mental-illness.

I am 54 years old and have struggled to survive living with OCD since age 5. I finally had help with luvox and years of therapy. It is still with me like a shadow. The show seemed much to easy to get such good results in such a short amount of time. ????? Just wondering.
Intensive CBT can be more effective than just meds or talk therapy, for sure.
