Individual vs. Group Psychotherapy for OCD

Financial constraints have made it more and more common for psychotherapy for OCD to be administered in a group format. A study appearing in the December issue of the journal Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences indicates that the group and individual format cognitive-behavior therapy are equivalent in their short and long effectiveness in reducing OCD symptoms. In addition to providing a venue for psychotherapy, the group setting can provide a valuable source of social support and can help to reduce the feelings of isolation that often accompany OCD.
